Stood up well to Shola Ameobi's second-half effort to prevent Newcastle from equalising at 1-0, and was otherwise untroubled.
Looked comfortable alongside Planus at centre-back, both when carrying out his defensive duties and when in possession of the ball.
Seemed to forget about Sammy Ameobi for much of the attacker's time on the pitch, effectively allowing him the freedom of the left flank. Luckily, Planus was on hand to cover, while Chalme concentrated on attack more than defence.
Other than Shola Ameobi's early second-half chance, the 30-year-old club stalwart was untroubled by Newcastle, often making a number of well-timed interceptions to haul the visitors back as they looked to break.
Looked strong from left-back, both on the break and also in defence.
F. Ben Khalfallah
The 30-year-old journeyman pulled the strings in the first half. May have been wasteful at times, but was always trying to create and was rewarded for his efforts when teeing up Diabate to head home.
A solid display from the captain, who kept the play ticking over nicely from the middle of the park with a sharp burst of pace when needed. Distributed the ball well, and dominated the opposition, particularly in the first half.
A. Biyogho Poko
Making his full debut for the Ligue 1 outfit, the Gabon international was solid enough in midfield, if showing his inexperience which a couple of mistimed challenges. His punt up field released Diabate to double his side's score.
A lively display from the Senegalese player, who should have put his side a goal to good after just two minutes, but somehow saw his point-blank effort saved by Elliot.
A quiet opening 45 minutes, but popped up when needed, heading home Khalfallah's cross to put his side 1-0 in front. Had the beating of Williamson all night, finally punishing the centre-half midway through the second period to seal a 2-0 win.
The ex-Sunderland man, who has seen his playing time at Bordeaux limited of late, will be content with his display. Always provided an option, often from the left-hand flank, while he teed up Khalfallah to assist Diabate's opener.
Made a great save from Saivet and was forced into another decent stop from Kalfala. Stood still for Diabate's opener and was nutmegged for the striker's second.
Couldn't catch Diabate for the striker's second goal after being caught too far up the pitch. Booked.
Was caught out by Bellion's cross which allowed Diabate to head in Bordeaux's opener.
Out of position for Bordeaux's opener and looked nervy in his passing.
Looked strong in the air but had a tricky test on the ground against Saivet. Booked.
Could have tightened up his distribution in order to help Newcastle build attacks but overall it was a solid display in midfield.
Despite playing in central midfield, Bigirimana didn't see much of the ball and as a result, the 19-year-old was unable to influence.
Had little influence on the game and was woefully inaccurate with his distribution.
Looked isolated in attack and couldn't link up well enough with Newcastle's midfield. Subbed after 81 minutes.
Another Newcastle player bypassed for the majority of the tie. Looked confident when in possession but hardly saw anything of the ball. Subbed at half time.
