PKNS FC 2-1 Kelantan: Defensive errors cost the Red Warriors
The Red Warriors came into the game with hopes of a victory but defensive errors allowed PKNS to find the net twice and take home all three points

Kelantan started the match without their skipper, Shakir Shaari who was sent off in the previous match. Bojan also benched sensational striker, Dickson Nwakaeme along with Norfarhan and Mohd Izwan. While the home side, depended on the wonderkid, Nazmi Faiz, to handle the midfield area, Patrick Ronaldinho Wleh led the attacking third.
Kelantan dominated the match from the kickoff. Fakri was the first one to test the goalkeeper after a defensive lapse in PKNS box saw a loose ball fall to Fakri who only managed to shoot wide. Just a minute later, he put the Red Warriors ahead when he received a decent low cross from Faiz Subri to tap it past Mohd Remezey. Kelantan led 1-0.
PKNS didn’t wait too long to pressure the Kelantan defence. Khairul Azrin took advantage of the chaos that occurred just outside the penalty box to stroke the ball well but Khairul Fahmi made the save.
The PKNS midfield, led by Nazmi made changes to break down Kelantan’s possession. It paid off for the Red Ants when they had a chance to equalise via Roman Chmelo after he received a great ball from Nazmi in the six-yard box. But he hit his shot too high as it didn’t trouble Khairul Fahmi.
Kelantan looked a little sloppy after scoring the goal and PKNS took advantage of that. The home side came close to finding the goal they deserved when Patrick Ronaldinho latched on to a through ball but was denied by Khairul Fahmi who saved the ball brilliantly in the one-on-one situation.
At the break, Kelantan were one goal up.
Bojan’s men started the second period with two pairs of fresh legs, introducing Dickson Nwakaeme and Farisham Ismail.
The changes, however, didn’t make a difference for the visitors as PKNS continued to pile on the pressure in search of the equaliser. Mohd Fazli sent in a cross towards Nazmi but he wasted his opportunity as he sent it high and wide.
Chmelo finally found the net for PKNS after he received a pass from Fazli. The latter picked up a loose ball left by Kelantan in midfield before crossing to Roman’s feet. The score was now level.
Nazmi got his chance to double PKNS’ lead when an individual mistake by K. Nanthakumar allowed Nazmi to capitalise. However, his weak shot was well-saved by the national number one.
It was chaos again in the Red Warriors’ penalty box when a great move by PKNS’ forwards led by Patrick left Kelantan in sixes and sevens. A quick recovery by the defender saw Kelantan maintain the score line for a while longer.
It was Mohd Fauzan who then put a dent in Kelantan’s hopes to take at least one point when his free kick curled over the wall and into the net. The home side were now 2-1 ahead .
Patrick Ronaldinho Wleh was shown the red card later in the game after an altercation with Obinna Nwaneri.
Kelantan however couldn’t take advantage of playing against ten men. But it were the hosts who almost extended their lead. Khairul Fahmi came to Kelantan’s rescue once again when he got down well to grab the ball before Helmi managed to strike it.
In the dying minutes of the game, the Red Warriors were pressing for an equaliser but to no avail. The PKNS side parked the bus to keep them out. At the end of the night, the Red Ants came out as 2-1 victors after taking advantage of the errors committed by the visitors.
