Selangor won in the first round of the FA Cup after beating ATM in the penalty shootout in what was a highly-contested match.

It was an amazing turnout at the Shah Alam Stadium with both sets of fans in full voice supporting their respective teams.

In a game of two halves, ATM drew first blood in the 7th minute with Marlon Alex James’ strike. Left winger Venice Ephie's cross was flicked on by Affize and an unmarked Marlon just needed a touch to put the ball at the back of the net.

With the home side having trouble getting into gear, the visitors capitalised with a second goal. Affize's deflected shot went pass Norazlan after a swift counter attack by the Gladiators.

Selangor came out in the second half with a much better performance which led to a goal in the 53rd minute. Solihin Kanasian made a good run down the right flank and had his cross find substitute Afiq Azmi’s head, who made it count.

Afiq Azmi ceased the opportunity just four minutes later in the penalty box - this time heading home from Asraruddin’s curling cross to level the game at 2-2.

With the equaliser, the game was forced to go into extra-time.

In extra-time, Selangor goalkeeper Norazlan was at his best as he kept out an ATM side that was piling on the pressure in the home defence.

Matters got out of hand in the second half of extra time when Adib Zainuddin was sent off for re-entering the game without the referee’s approval. A fight almost ensued as both sets of players gathered around the referee. However, Adib was called back by the referee and the game restarted.

The match eventually went into a penalty shootout.

Goalkeeper Norazlan was the Red Giant's hero having saved three penalties.

Irfan Bakti's men fought valiantly after a slow start and eventually emerged as winners.
