Two Dimitar Berbatov goals and a late third from Steve Sidwell give the hosts a deserved victory as Peter Odemwingie saw red for a stupid kick out in the first half

    Mark Schwarzer

Made a couple of good stops early on, but wasn't too troubled. Almost left red-faced when Brunt's corner struck the post, but looked like he had it covered, and then made a good stop to deny Lukaku.

Got forward well in the first half, but was slightly wasteful when he did. Provided good width and helped Kacaniklic. Jones did cause him trouble when attacking, but he was solid in the second half.

Dealt well with attacks from Long, commanding the aerial battles. Had a very quiet afternoon, but started attacks well from deep.

Deployed in central midfield, and spread the ball really well to the wings. A very accomplished performance from the defender-turned deep-lying midfielder.

Won't have had a much quieter afternoon for a while. Was on hand to mop up any loose balls, and generally had an easy time.

  • Sascha Riether

    Sascha Riether

Occasionally gave the ball away, but his crossing from the right in the first half was dangerous, and could have led to an opener on more than one occasion. One outrageous dive marred his afternoon though.

  • Steve Sidwell

    Steve Sidwell

A very good performance, he kept the ball moving nicely to the wings, and found Berbatov well. Supported attacks, and was rewarded with a late goal that he controlled well.

Damien Duff Top of the Match

A great performance from the winger, rolling back the years to torment Ridgewell at left-back. Cut inside dangerously, and was unlucky not to be rewarded with a goal.

  • Alexander Kacaniklic

    Alexander Kacaniklic

Was given far too many opportunities to run at the right-back, and eventually found Berbatov for the opener. Gave Jones the runaround for much of the match, and really put in a good shift.

Dropped deep and proved difficult to mark. Curled the opener home really well, giving Ben Foster no chance, and kept cool to stroke his penalty home.

  • Hugo Rodallega

    Hugo Rodallega

Had a dodgy opening to the game, and didn't look like getting too involved, but really came on strong in the second half, proving very difficult for Olsson and McAuley to keep track of. Should probably have scored his header though.

Came on late, but did well attacking, and almost got a surprise goal, but his effort was saved before eventually being turned in by Sidwell.

  • Ben Foster

    Ben Foster

Could do nothing about Berbatov's first, and was sent the wrong way for the second. Had an outstanding passage of play as he made four great saves in the second half to keep the Baggies in the game.

  • Jonas Olsson

    Jonas Olsson

Won most of his aerial battles, and kept Rodallega fairly quiet in the first half, but will be disappointed with how effective the striker was in the second.

  • Liam Ridgewell

    Liam Ridgewell

Defended pretty well in the first half, but wasn't helped by Odemwingie, who didn't track back to help out before his red card. Picked up a knock in the second half, but played on regardless.

  • Gareth McAuley

    Gareth McAuley

Made a few good blocks in the first half, but should have been tighter to Berbatov for the opening goal.

  • Billy Jones

    Billy Jones

Did well going forward, but struggled quite a lot to deal with Kacaniklic, with both goals in the opening 45 minutes coming from his side, including a rash challenge on Kacaniklic for the penalty.

A pretty quiet game for the Argentine, he kept the ball moving pretty well, but was forced off in the second half after picking up an injury.

    James Morrison

A decent outing, but didn't get much time on the ball, especially after Odemwingie's red card. Fired in a good effort early on that Schwarzer pushed over.

  • Youssouf Mulumbu

    Youssouf Mulumbu

Struggled to pick up Berbatov as the frontman dropped between the lines of defence and midfield. Gave the ball away occasionally, and didn't really enforce the way he can.

  • Shane Long

    Shane Long

A lot was asked of him. He didn't get much support up front, and though he did win headers and cause trouble for the defenders. Was a lonely figure for much of the first half.

  • Peter Odemwingie

Peter Odemwingie Flop of the Match

A moment of madness cost him and his team. He was pretty quiet up until the sending off, but inexplicably kicked out at Riether after losing the ball, and he really did catch the right-back. A very bad day for him.

  • Marc-Antoine Fortune

    Marc-Antoine Fortune

Was deployed on the right side of attack, and struggled quite badly. His team-mates didn't look for him in attack, and he didn't help them in defence, as he let Riise and Kacaniklic roam freely throughout the first-half.

Substitutions

    Chris Brunt

Came on at half-time as one of two changes made by Steve Clarke, but didn't get many opportunities other than set-pieces, though he did strike the post with a corner.

  • Romelu Lukaku

    Romelu Lukaku

Came on to try and make a difference up-front, and did put the defence under slightly more pressure than Long, with his only real effort forcing a decent stop from Schwarzer.
