Harimau Muda A 1-2 Gombak United: Young Tigers beaten by Gombak
Malaysian boys suffer tenth defeat of the season after going down at the Jalan Besar Stadium in a tight Singapore League match
By Prem Kumar
Harimau Muda A’s chances of winning the S-League are as good as gone after losing 2-1 to Gombak United yesterday.
Ong Kim Swee’s boys, who beat the same opponents by a 2-0 score-line earlier in the season, could not find the finishing touch this time around despite creating good goal-scoring opportunities throughout the match.
Gombak were leading by two goals through strikes from Zulfadhli Emran (51’) and South Korean Jung Hee-Bong (64’) when the Tigers were awarded a penalty kick for a foul on Wan Zack Haikal in the 67th minute. The winger picked himself up and converted the kick to pull one back for the young Malaysian team.
Kim Swee then sent on two attacking players in the shape of Hazwan Bakri and Syahrul Azwari in a bid to save the match but the equalising goal remained elusive.
The Young Tigers now sit fifth in the table with 35 points after yesterday’s defeat and will next meet Balestier Khalsa on Sunday before travelling to Vietnam for the invitational VFF Newspaper Cup.
