Francis Forkey Doe once again made the difference as he fired Terengganu to a 1-0 win against Kuala Lumpur. Razip Ismail’s men played valiantly and in a few occasions almost caused an upset against the East coast giants.

Terengganu started off brightly as they managed to penetrate KL’s midfield with incredible ease thanks to the sheer pace of national winger, Ashaari Shamsudin. Ashaari’s runs were too much to bear for KL and it paid for Terengganu.

The visitors drew first blood as Ismail Faruqi’s weak shot only went to the side netting. As the game went on, Terengganu consistently pushed for a goal but the constant calls for offside disrupted their attacking game.

Zakaria Charrara’s presence nearly made an impact to the game as his perfect through ball was wasted by Afiq Azmi poor finishing with only Sharbinee to beat in the 16th minute. Terengganu also had a chance in the 25th minute as a cross from Ismail was miscued by Abdul Jihad and Doe took advantage, lashing a shot on goal, only to be blocked by skipper, Aslam Najumudeen.

KL continued to dominate the game in the second-half and almost scored as a Terengganu corner was cleared away and Khairul Anwar lead the counterattack. Khairul’s glancing pass reached Zakaria but his shot sailed past the crossbar.

Doe, who had been having a disappointing game, finally broke the deadlock on the hour mark as Sharbinee’s goal kick was misjudged by Emmanuel Okine. Doe tapped in the loose ball with ease and gave Terengganu the win.

The forward should have killed the game off on numerous occasions but his composure deserted him. Mazlizam Mohammad also had a crack at goal right at the end of the game but his piledriver managed to hit the side-netting.

Terengganu went home with three points and a stay at the summit of the Malaysian Super League while Kuala Lumpur continue their struggle.
