  Pulled off key saves whenever called upon for the Canaries, denying Mata in particular on several occasions. The former Everton man continues to be reliable and he was rewarded with his side's first clean sheet of the season.

  Useful contributions when launching counter-attacks from deep but the Canaries vice-captain gave the ball away in his own half all too often and was lucky not to be punished, particularly by Mata towards the end of the first half.

  The American was particularly impressive at the heart of the Norwich back line, responsible for blunting the majority of Chelsea’s attacking moves with some key interceptions. An assured showing.

  Came out fairly well in his tussle with former team-mate Torres. The less spectacular of the centre-back pairing but the young Spaniard more than atoned for his poor showing at the Hawthorns.

  Unable to affect Chelsea's possession play in the centre of the park a great deal and usually overlooked in favour of the flanks when his side broke. Withdrawn for Crofts.

  Gave the ball away on occasion, particularly in the early stages, and did not really fulfil his job description of breaking up the midfield stranglehold.

  Had a couple of opportunities to attack down the right, with one attempted curler cutting in with his left foot headed away bravely by John Terry. Made a vital interception to rob Sturridge in the penalty area at the end of the opening period, before blazing a vicious shot over the bar early in the second period.

  Reasonably anonymous, never getting forward enough to test the defensive frailties of Jose Bosingwa. Replaced towards the end of the game.

  Strong and willing as ever, the striker combined excellently on occasion with his captain, Holt. He failed to completely impose himself, however, and was brought off with 10 minutes to go.

  Grant Holt

  Demonstrated a brilliant intuitive understanding with strike partner Morison to create a great chance for his side in the first half, doing well to unleash a left-footed shot that fizzed just wide. Made his presence felt as usual and asked plenty of questions of the Blues centre-halves.

  Largely kept on top of Pilkington despite the Norwich winger coming inside for the occasional shot. Pushed forward well enough and did his best to find the breakthrough, despite a tame shot towards the final whistle.

  Was unable to provide particular penetration and appeared to no longer have the legs to make any of his previously-trademark forward runs. Villas-Boas may have secretly been content to withdraw him in the first half due to a calf injury.

  Passed it around competently enough but was deployed so deep that it bordered on the ridiculous. What Villas-Boas would have hoped to be an Andrea Pirlo-esque playmaker role became simply a ball-carrier - a failing virtually admitted by the manager when Michael Essien came on in his place.

  Showed off his electric pace plenty but very little in the way of final product from the England youngster, giving the ball away lazily in good positions and allowing himself to be ball-napped by Pilkington just before half-time.

  Frustration once again for the troubled striker. Showed energy enough in the first half, pulling one good save out of Ruddy and also creating a late chance with a burst of pace down the right before the break, but guilty of a poor miss in the second half and tellingly removed with 15 minutes to go.
