Malaysia Under-23, or the team better known as Harimau Muda ‘A’, will head into their last Group A match of the 2013 Menpora Cup having only picked up one point in their last two games.
With only an outside chance of making it into second place, Ong Kim Swee would probably field his best XI to and hope that they can overcome the goal difference between them and Persib, provided the Indonesian side lose to Australia's Central Coast Mariners.
Seeing that he has already lost a lot of players to their respective clubs, fans cannot expect a similar showing to that in the Merdeka Tournament, which had stars like Wan Zack Haikal, Zubir Azmi, Junior Eldstal and Nazmi Faiz.
Harimau Muda, however, will have the services of Fadhli Shas and Izham Tarmizi in between the posts as their only hopes of keeping a clean sheet.
The midfield rock in skipper Irfan Fazail should be encouraging, but with strikers such as Thamil Arasu and Ferris Danial lacking the cutting edge, the Young Tigers would be hoping for the likes of D. Saarvindran and Ridzuan Abdunloh to find the net, much like in their opening fixture of the tournament against Persib.
Sriwijaya FC, on the other hand, have nothing left to play for in the Menpora Cup after losing their first two games; first, 2-0 defeat to Mariners and then a 2-1 loss against Persib.
The Andalas Eagles have had a poor run even before the start of the tournament with only one win in the last eight; that victory was back in July when they took on PSPS in the Indonesian Super League.
Herman Dzumafo Eppandi was the scorer of Sriwijaya’s late goal in the 2-1 defeat to Persib but head coach Kas Hartadi wouldn’t be expecting much from his men seeing that they are playing for a lost cause.
With a leaky defence that have conceded 20 times in the last eight, Ong would be instructing his players to shoot at will when near the Sriwijaya penalty area even though he came out saying that his forces are fatigued playing two back to back tournaments, first the Merdeka Tournament, then the Menpora Cup.
