    David de Gea

Made a great early save to deny Lennon with his legs and could do nothing about either Spurs goal.

  • Patrice Evra

    Patrice Evra

The Frenchman had his usual horror show up against Lennon. Caught ball watching as Spurs looked to play the ball in behind him.

    Jonny Evans

Some solid defending up against Soldado but beaten by Lennon too easily in the build-up to Tottenham's second goal.

  • Chris Smalling

Chris Smalling Flop of the Match

Unlucky not to score when he powered into the area and shot straight at Lloris but caught with his feet rooted to the ground for Adebayor's goal.

  • Nemanja Vidic

    Nemanja Vidic

The United captain read the game very well with some excellent interceptions and was, as usual, dominant in the air. Caught terribly flat-footed at right-back for Eriksen's goal.

  • Michael Carrick

    Michael Carrick

A key figure for United as he looked to pick up the ball and build his side's attacks. Maybe played a little too deep at times.

  • Tom Cleverley

    2.00

    Tom Cleverley

Looked very bright in the first half-hour as he played at a high tempo and zipped passes into team-mates. On the flip-side, had very little influence after Tottenham's goal.

  • Antonio Valencia

    Antonio Valencia

Skipped past Rose easily at times but his final ball was inconsistent and he often failed to pick out team-mates. Terrible ball-watching at right-back for Eriksen's goal.

  • Adnan Januzaj

    Adnan Januzaj

The youngster played with great tenacity, skill and ambition. Lovely pass for Welbeck's goal and was the man United looked to to make things happen, both on the left and the right.

  • Wayne Rooney

    Wayne Rooney

Some quality moments, particularly as he pinged cross-field passes from central midfield, but appeared off the pace after being rushed back from a groin problem. Booked in the first-half for a silly tug on Dembele.

  • Danny Welbeck

    Danny Welbeck

Some very lively movement on the shoulder of the Spurs centre-backs throughout the game and got his goal with a lovely dinked finish. Should have been booked, though, for a terrible dive in the second half.

Substitutions

  • Ashley Young

    Ashley Young

Replaced Cleverley in the 84th minute. Should have been awarded a penalty after he was taken out by Lloris in the box.

  • Javier Hernández

    Javier Hernández

Lively on the shoulder of the Spurs defenders after replacing Carrick in the 61st minute. Touch let him down a couple of times in the box.

  • Shinji Kagawa

    Shinji Kagawa

Disappointing display from the midfielder. Made no real impact after coming on for Smalling in the 61st minute.

  • Hugo Lloris

    0
    2.50

    Hugo Lloris

Quick off his line to claim the ball but made some misjudgements, not least when he clattered into Young late on. Kicking was also poor.

  • Kyle Walker

    2.50

    Kyle Walker

Tenacious defending up against Januzaj and needed his pace to handle the United winger. Rarely used his attacking skills as he often stayed back.

  • Danny Rose

    Danny Rose

The full-back looked very uncomfortable defensively up against Valencia in the first half but improved after the break.

  • Vlad Iulian Chiricheş

    Vlad Iulian Chiricheş

Made some crucial interceptions and was classy on the ball, but the Romanian was caught out too easily by balls in behind him - one of which resulted in Welbeck's goal.

  • Michael Dawson

    Michael Dawson

Some shaky moments early on but made key interceptions and was commanding in the air.

  • Aaron Lennon

    Aaron Lennon

Again got the better of Evra, who couldn't handle the winger's pace. Produced one fabulous cross for Soldado and should have scored early on but struck too close to De Gea.

  • Etienne Capoue

    Etienne Capoue

Strong defensively at the base of the midfield but his passing was sloppy before being replaced by Bentaleb in the 64th minute.

  • Mousa Dembélé

    Mousa Dembélé

The Belgian was poor early on but improved greatly, skipping past challenges with his superb dribbling ability.

  • Christian Eriksen

    Christian Eriksen

Not always involved but made his quality count in the final third. Superb cross for Adebayor's opener and reacted quickly to score the second himself with a sharp header from close range.

  • Roberto Soldado

    Roberto Soldado

Worked hard and linked up play well, playing one fantastic pass to Lennon in the first half. Should have scored but sliced over the bar from close range and was replaced by Kane 15 minutes from time.

  • Emmanuel Adebayor

Emmanuel Adebayor Top of the Match

Rejuvenated under Tim Sherwood. Scored the opener in the 34th minute with a wonderful header and was at the heart of Spurs' best attacking play. The injury that forced him to leave the pitch on a stretcher in the 70th minute could be a huge blow to Spurs' prospects this season.

Pressed hard and produced some tidy passes after replacing Capoue in the 64th minute.

Worked hard and offered an outlet after coming on for Soldado with 15 minutes left.
