If recent history is anything to go by, the fixture between New Radiant of the Maldives and Selangor of Malaysia is set to end in a home victory.  Radiant were extremely impressive in their Group F fixtures at the Rasmee Dhandu Stadium, winning their three games by an aggregate score of 10-2.  The Maldivian outfit came away as group winners, topping Group F ahead of Yangon United, Sun Hei and Bojonegoro, ahead of Yangon United with goal difference.

In their group stage, their only defeat came in the away match at Yangon United, but other than that, New Radiant were nothing short of excellent on the pitch. They registered five wins and scored 20 goals along the way, something that should have Irfan Bakti worried.  Selangor will need to be at their best defensively to keep out forward Ali Ashfaq who has eight goals in the competition so far, including two hat-tricks.  Also a threat will be Mohamed Umair who has six goals, and Ali Fasir who has three.

For the Red Giants, their quest in the group stage was somewhat different from New Radiant. Finishing second behind East Bengal, they only collected eight points from a possible 18, making it into the next round only by their superior head to head record.

A failure to secure any wins in their first three matches had got their fans worried, but they managed to stay unbeaten in their last three group games, including a rare away success in the 3-2 win against Tampines Rovers in their final group game.  While Selangor's away record hasn't been particularly impressive this season, both domestically and internationally, the attacking trio of Michal Kubala, Francis Forkey Doe and Amri Yahyah gives hope to the Red Giants faithful that they can continue their journey in this season's AFC Cup.

Irfan will hope that Norazlan Razali will be at his best to keep out the immense fire power of Ashfaq and Umair from New Radiant and they will be hoping that fit-again Forkey Doe will find his goal-scoring touch again to lead the line in attack.

  • New Radiant are top of their league with a perfect record of six wins out of six.

  • They finished second in their group and went through the next round based on their head-to-head record with Sài Gòn Xuân Thành.
