Borussia Dortmund win Aggregate 3 - 2

Live Commentary

  • That's all from me for tonight guys and girls! What a game that was! Good night everyone.
  • Heartbreak for Malaga as their fabulous run is ended, but what character Dortmund showed to come back late on. Madrid advanced in the other game tonight, despite losing 3-2 in Istanbul. Klopp's side will not be afraid of meeting Mourinho's men in the semi-finals, having outplayed them on two occasions already this year.
  • That was a monumental finish to that game! Dortmund players celebrate wildly on the pitch at Westfalenstadion while Malaga's players kneel on the turf. The away side cannot believe what has happened tonight, and neither can I to be honest.
  • FULL-TIME: DORTMUND 3-2 MALAGA (AGG 3-2) An astonishing finale in this quarter-final second leg saw Dortmund score twice in added time to seal a place in the last four. Malaga looked to be heading through to a fairytale semi-final after Eliseu put them 2-1 up in the 82nd minute before the hosts struck twice in quick succession through Reus and Santana.
  • 90' + 5'
    Yellow Card Martín Demichelis
  • 90' + 5'
  • 90' + 3'
    Assist Julian Schieber
  • 90' + 3'
    Goal Felipe Santana
OH MY WORD!!! DORTMUND HAVE DONE IT!!! THEY LEAD 3-2! There is chaos in the Malaga box following a cross from Lewandowski on the left, before Santana eventually gets a vital touch to poke the ball over the line.
  • 90' + 3'
Can Dortmund complete an unbelievable comeback??
  • 90' + 1'
    Assist Felipe Santana
  • 90' + 1'
    Goal Marco Reus
GOALLLLL!!! REUS SCORES TO MAKE IT 2-2!! Dortmund are level after a long ball to Subotic is diverted into the path of Reus who calmly slots the ball into the net. What a frantic couple of minutes we have left here!
  • 90' + 1'
  • 90'
The clock is ticking here. Dortmund have thrown Santana and Subotic forward to play in attack as they search for goals. The ball falls invitingly to the latter inside the Malaga box but his touch lets him down and Caballero is able to collect the ball!
  • 89'
Toulalan goes flying into Subotic just inside the Dortmund half and receives a yellow card for his troubles.
  • 88'
    Yellow Card Jérémy Toulalan
  • 88'
Joaquin, who has ran himself into the ground for Malaga tonight, is replaced by Portillo for the final few minutes.
  • 87'
    SubstitutionJoaquín Portillo
  • 87'
Not for the first time it's a disappointing free kick from Reus given the circumstances. His curling shot flies a couple of yards over the bar.
  • 86'
    SubstitutionIlkay Gündogan Mats Hummels
  • 86'
The home side do have a free kick in a wonderful position though, 25 yards from goal, just left of centre...
  • 85'
Dortmund now need two goals to go through!
  • 83'
    SubstitutionJúlio Baptista Roque Santa Cruz
  • 83'
Controversy in Dortmund then. Klopp is screaming at the officials from his technical area after that goal was allowed to stand. Replays show Eliseu was offside when Baptista hit that pass/shot.
  • 82'
    Assist Júlio Baptista
  • 82'
    Goal Eliseu
MALAGA HAVE SCORED!!!! THEY LEAD 2-1!! There is a massive hint of offside about that goal though! Baptista slides a pass across to Eliseu who flicks the ball into the empty net with Weidenfeller out of position. Dortmund look furious.
  • 81'
Some neat footwork from Isco takes him away from Subotic on the left and leaves the Dortmund centre-back with little choice but to bring the Malaga youngster down as the visitors threatened.
  • 80'
10 minutes left for Dortmund to find some way of beating Caballero 10.
  • 79'
ANOTHER INCREDIBLE SAVE FROM CABALLERO! The Malaga goalkeeper is keeping his side in the competition at the moment. He was the hero in the first leg, and he's repeating the trick tonight. On this occasion he deflects Gotze's well-struck effort round his left-hand post.
  • 78'
Reus was looking to the heavens after Caballero kept that shot out. The Malaga goalkeeper has certainly proved his worth over the course of these two games. It is what his team expect now though, as he's been brilliant all season for the Liga side.
  • 77'
MASSIVE CHANCE FOR REUS!! Caballero produces a fantastic reaction save to keep out the Dortmund man's close-range effort after more great wing play from Piszczek.
  • 76'
Holy moley! Gala have gone 3-1 up against Madrid in the other Champions League game tonight. The Spaniards still lead 4-3 on aggregate. What a game they are having in Istanbul!
  • 75'
I wonder how those changes will affect each side. Dortmund have to throw men forward - they are 15 minutes away from exiting the competition!
  • 74'
    SubstitutionDuda Eliseu
  • 74'
I'm not sure about Malaga's substitution. They are taking Duda off and bringing on Eliseu. I thought Duda had been one of their best performers this evening!
  • 73'
    SubstitutionSven Bender Nuri Sahin
  • 73'
Off go Kuba and Bender for Julian Schieber and the man deemed not good enough for Liverpool by Brendan Rodgers - Nuri Sahin.
  • 72'
    SubstitutionJakub Blaszczykowski Julian Schieber
  • 72'
    Changes afoot for Dortmund...
  • 70'
GREAT STRIKE FROM TOULALAN! The France international hits a firm rising effort from distance that Weidenfeller does well to parry away after a tidy move involving Joaquin and Duda inside the Dortmund box.
  • 69'
DORTMUND HAVE SCOR.... IT'S OFFSIDE! The hosts have the ball in the net after Lewandowski and Blaszczykowski combine but the flag is up and play is pulled back - much to Malaga's relief.
  • 68'
Vital tackle from Demichelis on Gotze! The Dortmund attacker looked to be in on goal but for a fine last-ditch challenge from the Argentine centre-back.
  • 67'
ARGHHHH!! For every good Duda free kick for Malaga, Reus has produced a bad one for Dortmund. He has just lifted another straight on to the head of Demichelis.
  • 66'
Malaga should do better after winning a free kick on the left but it is a wasteful delivery and the ball quickly ends up in Dortmund's hands.
  • 64'
Elsewhere in the competition Gala have levelled in their second leg against Real Madrid thanks to a brilliant goal from Emanuel Eboue. That is not a typo. It's 1-1 in the second leg, but Madrid still lead on aggregate, 4-1.
  • 63'
Duda has been very impressive for Malaga tonight. His set pieces have been top notch and he's moved the ball well in open play too.
  • 62'
    Yellow Card Jesús Gámez
  • 61'
That's some strange behaviour from Schmelzer and Gamez! The Malaga player gets up from the turf and is caught in the face by Schmelzer as he runs past and promptly collapses back to the floor. The referee is not impressed and books the Malaga defender for god knows what, he was the victim there!
  • 60'
    Yellow Card Marcel Schmelzer
  • 60'
Dortmund win a corner on the right after a penetrating run from Piszczek, but they again fail to test Caballero and the set piece is cleared away.
  • 58'
Klopp is furious about something down on the touchline. His side have started the second half well but they still need another goal to go through.
  • 57'
Reus curls the second corner towards the head of Santana but he is just beaten to the ball by Sanchez, who nods the ball away from danger.
  • 56'
Malaga can only head that set piece behind after it is worked short to Schmelzer, which means Dortmund have another chance to test Caballero.
  • 55'
Decent attacking play from the Batman-masked Schmelzer results in a corner for the home side.
  • 54'
Gamez and Sanchez collide for Malaga, with the former needing treatment following the clash. It looked fairly innocuous but he looks in quite a bit of pain the right-back.
  • 53'
BIG CHANCE FOR GOTZE!! A misplaced header from Sanchez falls into the path of Dortmund's attacking midfielder but after taking a touch to control the ball his half volley is high and wide of Caballero's goal. He should have done better there, it was a great opportunity!
  • 51'
Isco dances past the challenge of Schmelzer on the right but his eventual cross is comfortably dealt with by Subotic. There were no Malaga players attacking that pass! I've no idea where Baptista was.
  • 50'
That was a well-worked free kick from Malaga that led to Weidenfeller's heroics, as Duda's lofted set piece was directed into Joaquin's path by a deft touch from Demichelis of all people.
  • 49'
BRILLIANT STOP FROM WEIDENFELLER!! The Dortmund goalkeeper produces an unbelievable stop to keep out Joaquin's header, with the ball seemingly destined for the bottom right corner. That was some stop from the 32-year-old!
  • 48'
LEWANDOWSKI SHOOTS STRAIGHT AT CABALLERO! The Poland international wastes little time in getting a shot away after the ball runs to him 25 yards out. His curling right footed effort is straight at the Malaga goalkeeper though.
  • 47'
Camacho lunges in on Lewandowski in front of the two benches and Klopp is up on his feet quickly to remonstrate with the Malaga midfielder. Quite rightly Dortmund have a free kick for that foul.
  • 46'
Off we go! The second half is underway. I am expecting fireworks in the remaining 45 minutes!
  • So ladies and gents, where do you see this match going? I want to hear your second half predictions on Twitter at @charliefscott and in the shiny comments box to the right of this commentary.
  • Credit to Malaga's midfield pair of Camacho and Jeremy Toulalan by the way. I expected them to really struggle against Dortmund's accomplished midfield but they have done a very good job so far, particularly in dealing with the playmaking threat of Gundogan. They could do little about Dortmund's breathtaking goal that levelled things up, but then again I don't many teams could have!
  • Elsewhere in the Champions League, Real Madrid lead Galatasaray 1-0 over in Istanbul. Los Blancos are of course 4-0 up on aggregate after their comprehensive win at the Santiago Bernabeu last week. No surprises who scored this evening, Cristiano Ronaldo netted his 48th Champions League goal.
  • The equalising goal gave Dortmund a confidence they had appeared to lack in the previous 39 minutes, and they continued to pose problems for Malaga for the final minutes of the first half. That is, at least until Joaquin forced Weidenfeller into a smart save after heading a free kick from Isco towards goal deep in added time.
  • HALF-TIME: BORUSSIA DORTMUND 1-1 MALAGA (AGG 1-1) The visitors stormed into a surprise lead after 25 minutes when Joaquin arrowed a shot past Weidenfeller after some questionable defending from Santana, before Lewandowski levelled the score five minutes before the break. The Dortmund striker showed great composure to finish off a fine team move after being set up by a sumptuous flicked pass from Reus.
  • 45' + 2'
SAVE FROM WEIDENFELLER!! Isco curls the set piece on to the head of an unmarked Joaquin on the penalty spot and the Dortmund goalkeeper is forced into a diving save to keep the score level.
  • 45' + 1'
Free kick for Malaga on the brink of half-time 45 yards from goal...
  • 45'
The referee signals for a single minute of added time at the end of this first half...
  • 44'
The home side again attack down the right through Piszczek and Gotze, but Demichelis sprints across well to hack the ball out for a throw.
  • 42'
Dortmund are brimming with confidence in the final few minutes of this half. Meanwhile Malaga's coach Pellegrini paces his technical area. Remember his team are still technically in front because of their away goal.
  • 41'
That was a brilliant goal from the home side. Lewandowski did superbly to stay on his feet and round Caballero before scoring, but Reus' audacious assist deserves credit too.
  • 40'
    Assist Marco Reus
  • 40'
    Goal Robert Lewandowski
THE WESTFALENSTADION ERUPTS AS LEWANDOWSKI EQUALISES! Dortmund are level after their clinical forward shows great composure to dribble the ball past Caballero and slot it into the empty net after latching on to an outrageous flicked pass from Reus.
  • 38'
STAT: Malaga have now scored eight opening goals in this year's Champions League, more than any other side.
  • 36'
CHANCE FOR REUS!! The Germany international finds some space 30 yards from goal and after jinxing past a challenge from Camacho attempts to fire an effort at goal. The shot does not get very far though, as Demichelis' considerable torso blocks its route to goal.
  • 35'
The Spanish midfielder's cross is accurate as it lands near the penalty spot but Dortmund's defence is well organised and able to deal with the danger and clear the ball up field.
  • 34'
Malaga now win a corner of their own. Their goalscorer Joaquin trudges over to take it.
  • 33'
The ball is hooked into the area by Gotze from the set piece but is easily nodded away before Subotic is flagged offside as the ball is played forward once more. Dortmund are yet to click in this game.
  • 32'
Gotze's driven effort from a tight angle is parried behind by Caballero and the home team have (I think) their first corner of the game.
  • 31'
STAT: Dortmund have won all four of their home games this season in Europe, conceding just once in the process.
  • 30'
This game is finely poised as we head towards half-time. Not many would have thought Malaga would score first here, particularly after Dortmund battered them in the first leg at La Rosaleda.
  • 29'
Dortmund continue to be patient in possession, as Santana and Subotic pass the ball between themselves on the halfway line.
  • 27'
Joaquin's strike flew past the despairing dive of Roman Weidenfeller to find the bottom corner there. There was little more the Dortmund goalkeeper could have done.
  • 26'
It's game on here in Dortmund! That away goal could be vital for Malaga and their hopes of qualifying for the last four. Dortmund have to attack now, they need two to go through.
  • 25'
    Assist Isco
  • 25'
    Assist Isco
  • 25'
    Goal Joaquín
AND THERE'S THAT GOAL WE WERE LOOKING FOR!! Joaquin puts Malaga ahead with a super strike from the edge of the box! The winger picked up the ball 20 yards from goal after some confusion at the back from Dortmund, and after shifting the ball on to his weaker left foot he drove a low shot into the bottom right corner.
  • 24'
That is some robust defending from Demichelis! The former Bayern Munich centre-back will be well and truly up for this game tonight having faced Dortmund so many times before.
  • 23'
We're midway through the first half and we are yet to have any clear cut chances. I'm hoping me saying that tempts fate and we witness a wonder goal in the next few minutes...
  • 21'
A quick throw from Piszczek nearly catches the Malaga defence out but Lewandowski is not paying much attention as the ball flies over his head and it bounces all the way through to Caballero.
  • 20'
@ToZiKa and @nimitz8 are both predicting easy wins for the home side tonight. What do the rest of you think? Anyone fancy Malaga to spring a surprise in their maiden foray in the Champions League? Let me know on Twitter at @charliefscott.
  • 18'
Ahhhhh that is not a nice pass from Blaszczykowski to Piszczek! The Dortmund full-back had made a fantastic run into space on the right behind Antunes but his team-mate failed to produce an adequate pass to find him.
  • 17'
STAT: Dortmund have enjoyed 68% possession int he opening 17 minutes here, and have completed more than twice as many passes as their Spanish opponents, 118-56.
  • 15'
GREAT EFFORT FROM LEWANDOWSKI!! The Poland international has been in fine goalscoring form of late and he nearly continues that with a deft chip from outside the area. Fortunately for the stranded Caballero the effort has just too much on it, and the ball lands on the roof of the Malaga net.
  • 14'
That is a vital header from Jesus Gamez! The Malaga right-back beats Lewandowski in the air and clears the ball, but after receiving a pass back from Joaquin he promptly surrenders possesion with a heavy touch. Pellegrini will be bubbling with irritation on the touchline after that sloppy move.
  • 12'
Camacho has come into Malaga's midfield tonight in place of the suspended Iturra and has taken on the huge task of shackling the wonderful talents of Gotze and Marco Reus. It will be interesting to see if he is up to the challenge!
  • 11'
So guys and girls, what are your predictions for tonight's game? Who will be the shining light for each team? I would love to hear from you, so fire your thoughts over to me in the comments box on the right of this commentary, or by tweeting me at @charliefscott.
  • 10'
    Yellow Card Sven Bender
  • 10'
YELLOW CARD FOR BENDER! The Dortmund holding midfielder is the first player into Craig Thomson's book after he crashes into a challenge on Joaquin and gets very little of the ball. He can have no complaints about that booking.
  • 9'
Over in the other quarter-final this evening Real Madrid have just taken a 1-0 lead against Galatasaray in Istanbul, which means the Liga side are now 4-0 up on aggregate.
  • 8'
The flag goes up against Lewandowski and the Poland international responds by sending a sultry glare at the linesman on the near side.
  • 7'
A good tackle from Sanchez stops Mario Gotze breaking down the right-hand side as Dortmund try and inject a bit of urgency to their play.
  • 5'
Dortmund have seen more of the ball in the opening exchanges here, but are yet to break through Malaga's defence. The Spanish side look fairly happy to sit back and let Klopp's side keep the ball in their own half at the moment.
  • 4'
Malaga's hero from the first leg, Willy Caballero, gets his first touch of the evening after the ball is prodded back to him by Martin Demichelis. Pellegrini's men will be hoping their goalkeeper puts in a similar display tonight.
  • 3'
Jakub Blaszczykowski tries to find Robert Lewandowski with a through ball but Malaga's centre-back Sergio Sanchez is having none of that, as he nips in to steal possession for the away side.
  • 2'
Let me tell you there is a fantastic atmosphere in the stadium tonight. The Dortmund fans are making an absolute racket! Hats off to Malaga too, 2,500 of their supporters have made the trip to Germany for this game.
  • 1'
We are off! Malaga get the first half underway here...
  • We've had the amazing Champions League theme tune. Kick-off is just minutes away over in Dortmund!
  • My esteemed colleague Tom Webber tells me that there has never been a Champions League knock-out tie which has ended goalless after two legs. Which means this game is guaranteed to have goals apparently! Let's hope he is right!
  • What a massive game we have on our hands tonight! This could be the last time Malaga taste Champions League football for a while, with a ban from European competition hanging over their heads after they broke Financial Fair Play regulations in October. That will surely act as an added incentive for them to extend their brilliant run in this year's competition.
  • POSITIVE MALAGA STAT: The Spaniards are the only team yet to concede a first-half goal in the Champions League this season.
  • POSITIVE DORTMUND STAT: They have drawn the first leg of a knock-out match on eight occasions and qualified six of those times.
  • The visitors are faced with greater problems. While the majority of their starting XI are fresh having been rested at the weekend, the Liga side are without their suspended captain, Weligton, and their influential midfielder Manuel Iturra. The pair are replaced by Sergio Sanchez and Ignacio Camacho respectively. Elsewhere, the former Arsenal striker Julio Baptista starts as a lone striker.
  • There's good and bad news for the hosts then. Jakub Blaszczykowski returns to full fitness to start in attacking midfield, but Mats Hummels is only fit enough to take a seat on the substitute's bench. Felipe Santana continues at centre-back alongside Neven Subotic in the Germany international's absence.
  • MALAGA (4-2-3-1): Caballero; Gamez, Demichelis, Sanchez, Antunes; Camacho, Toulalan; Joaqun, Isco, Duda; Baptista
  • DORTMUND (4-2-3-1): Weidenfeller; Piszczek, Subotic, Santana, Schmelzer; Bender, Gundogan; Gotze, Reus, Blaszczykowski; Lewandowski
  • The teams are in! Both starting XIs are coming right up...
  • Malaga, meanwhile, rested eight players for their Liga match at the weekend, and it showed as they were thrashed 4-2 by Real Sociedad. Expect most of those players to return this evening. Manuel Pellegrini's team currently sit sixth in La Liga.
  • Jurgen Klopp's side come into the game fresh from being dethroned as Bundesliga champions by Bayern Munich, despite winning four of their last five league matches. They outplayed their opponents this evening in the first leg at La Rosaleda but left Spain with a disappointing 0-0 draw having been thwarted by an inspired Willy Caballero in the Malaga goal.
  • My name is Charlie Scott and I'll be on hand to guide you through tonight's twists and turns over in Germany as both teams battle for a place in the last four of Europe's elite competition. As always, I'll be available on Twitter throughout the game at @charliefscott. Feel free to get in touch!
  • Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome to's LIVE coverage of the HUGE Champions League quarter-final second leg between Borussia Dortmund and Malaga at Westfalenstadion.
