'I nearly killed Zlatan, maybe he's scared of me' - Jansson hopes to face Man Utd striker again

Pontus Jansson feels he emerged victorious in a previous battle with Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and hopes to see their paths cross again in the Premier League.

The defender, who has seen his loan switch from Torino turned into a permanent deal at Elland Road, previously met his fellow Swede in a friendly encounter while on the books at Malmo.

Ibrahimovic was turning out for Inter at the time and Jansson believes he bossed a man he admits was a boyhood hero of his growing up.

He is now looking at repeating those heroics in the not too distant future, with Leeds pushing hard to secure promotion back to the English top flight.

And if they were to meet again, Jansson believes he would have the enigmatic Red Devils forward running scared.

He told the Yorkshire Evening Post : “I really killed him in that game so maybe he is scared of me.

“I have been aiming for the Premier League since the first day I came here.

“We are on the right way. We play good football and we win games even when we play bad football.

“That’s what a good team does.”

Jansson is, however, aware that his dream contest could be snatched away from him, with the 25-year-old not convinced that Ibrahimovic’s future lies at Old Trafford despite United’s desire to extend a one-year agreement.

“Maybe he’s going back to Italy, I don’t know,” he added.

“We will see what’s happening. It would be nice to play against him again.”
