Man Utd and Liverpool-linked De Vrij reaches agreement with Lazio over new deal

Lazio have reached “complete agreement” with Stefan de Vrij over a new contract and are waiting to hear back from the player's agency.

De Vrij, 26, has been linked with Premier League duo Manchester United and Liverpool with his current deal set to expire at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

However, Lazio's sporting director Igli Tare has revealed the club have triggered an agreement with the Netherlands defender over fresh terms.

But Tare says the hold-up over an official announcement on the new contract is down to a “problem” with De Vrij's agency.

“I prefer not to talk about this tonight, there will be a communiqué soon to that effect,” Tare explained to Mediaset Premium.

“It’s more in than out though. There is complete agreement with the player, the problem is with his agency but these are bureaucratic matters.

“It’s a never-ending story but we’ll decide soon.”

Reports in Italy claim that a low release clause could be included in De Vrij's prospective new contract, allowing him to leave the capital club in the summer if he wishes.

De Vrij joined Lazio from Feyenoord in 2014 and helped the club win the Supercoppa Italiana in 2017.

The centre-back has made 27 appearances in all competitions for the Biancocelesti so far this season, scoring three goals for Simone Inzaghi's men.
