Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia are among two clubs which have hauled maximum points out of their two opening matches thanks to the Ugandan forward, who has opened his 2014 account with two goals out of two matches. Apart from scoring in the opener against Nairobi City Stars on Thursday, Sserunkuma was also on the mark as K’Ogalo registered their second league victory against Mathare United on Sunday. The Ugandan international looks set to have an incredible season if he keeps up his performance both on domestic and continental level.

Congratulations to Dan Sserunkuma's 23rd Kenya Player of the Week winner!

Honourable Mention

Edwin Oduor- Sony Sugar

Edwin Oduor has had an incredible start to the season and on Sunday became the league's top scorer with three goals when he scored in a 1-0 upset of Sofapaka at Machakos Municipal Stadium. Oduor had opened his account with two goals against Nakuru Top Fry in a 3-0 demolition of the league's new comers on the opening day of the season two weeks ago. The former KCB midfielder seems to have found his touch at the sugar millers and has proved to be a perfect alternative to the ageing Marwa Chamberi. He is responsible for putting Sony Sugar at the top of the standings so early in the season.

Jesse Were- Tusker

Last year, the Tusker forward missed out on the Kenyan Premier League Golden boot award by a whisker. This time he looks ready to claim the title. He had an incredible performance for the brewers in a 3-1 demolition of Western Stima.
Coming on as a second half substitute, Were scored once and set up the other two goals enabling his side to bag maximum points. It is a performance that former Western Stima coach Francis Barasa admitted was responsible for the demolition of his side. “Were destroyed us completely. My defenders could not stop him and his presence made all the difference.”

Roosevelt Blaty - KRA

When the history of the 2014 season is written, one chapter will be reserved for KRA after they made history by picking their first maximum points at the expense of KCB. The man responsible for that historical 1-0 win was none other than Liberian import Roosevelt Blaty, whose goal has greatly inspired the tax men and left coach Ken Kenyatta dreaming of bigger things. “This is just the beginning of bigger things to come and we want to warn up-coming opponents to be weary of us. We are determined to do even better in future.”

Each week our team of writers will put forward a selected candidate, as chosen by Kenya, who deserves recognition for achieving something special that matchday.

You can also help us choose a worthy recipient of the weekly accolade by leaving your nominations and comments. Your suggestions will be taken into consideration.

It won't necessarily be the best player in the country - at least not usually - but whoever we crown will have accomplished something amazing. It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention...
