Kenya Player of the Week: Imbalambala-AFC Leopards

The AFC Leopards' skipper has always led from the front and it was evident on Sunday as he scored in the team's 2-0 victory over Mathare United
Kenya Player of the Week
Martin Imbalambala
AGE 24
TEAM AFC Leopards
AFC Leopards
2-0 Mathare United

As the captain of AFC Leopards, Martin Imbalambala always leads from the front and has so far missed only two of the team's fixtures this season all due to injury. He originally started playing as a defender but has proved that he can be employed in midfield as the situation dictates showing just how dependable he is. Add on to that his ability to score goals is another outstanding attribute of a player who shows plenty of discipline on and off the pitch. In 15 matches, Imbalambala has scored three goals and continues to inspire the side. He was on target on Sunday as Ingwe beat Mathare United 2-0 at Mumias Complex Stadium.

Congratulations to Martin Imbalambala's 10th Kenya Player of the Week winner!

Honourable Mention

Mungai Kiongera - Gor Mahia

Since moving to Gor Mahia on loan from KCB, Kiongera has proved his worth many times over. On his very first debut for Gor Mahia against Sofapaka, he scored what still remains a goal of the season contender and were it not for an injury that put him out for close to three months, the national team striker would be up there with the current top scorers. He showed his true colors with two goals for Gor this past week scoring against Chemelil and Western Stima. He is also enjoying a great time at Harambee Stars where he scored one goal in the just concluded Cosafa Cup in Zambia. Kiongera remains a key ingredient in the club's ambition to win the 2013 title.

Rama Salim- Gor Mahia

Despite his slim frame, Salim is a terror to any defence and he proved the same in the last two matches where he claimed two goals in as many fixtures. Salim seems to be getting better with every season. Last year, he was integral in helping the club finish in second spot in the standings and has maintained the same performance this year. He has shown that he can play with any of the team’s top strikers and delivers all the time.

Vincent Okello- Mathare United

Despite his side losing 2-0 to AFC Leopards’ on Sunday, Okello was outstanding in midfield and gave his markers a lot of problems. He remains one of the most outstanding players in United side that is struggling to do well this season. His free-kicks from the edge of the box are a bother to many goalkeepers. He continues to be coach Stanley Okumbi's major hope this season.

It won't necessarily be the best player in the country - at least not usually - but whoever we crown will have accomplished something amazing. It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention...
