Thika United
2-1 Tusker

If there is one player who scores when it matters then it is Francis Kahata. On Saturday, he netted twice as his club Thika United upset league champions Tusker 2-1 at home increasing his tally to three goals. Many local fans will remember for a long time, Kahata’s goal against Nigeria on March 23 when his curled free-kick opened the scores for Stars and made them believe for a while that they could stop the African champions. Kahata was at the receiving end of coach John Kamau’s criticism three weeks ago when the tactician challenged him to pull up his socks or risk losing his place in the team and he did just that with two crucial goals against Tusker to push his side to the top of the standings.

Congratulations to Francis Kahata's 4th Kenya Player of the Week winner!

Honourable Mention

Dan Sserunkuma - Gor Mahia

On Sunday, a Gor Mahia fan was overhead saying that while the country is facing a striking crisis, Gor are an exception by having Sserunkuma in their line-up and he may just have been right after the Ugandan import scored to help Gor Mahia dismiss arch-rivals AFC Leopards 1-0. This is the third time Sserunkuma has scored against Leopards. He did it last season twice while at Nairobi City Stars and then when he joined Gor Mahia in the second leg of the league. Though he has not had an impressive season so far, scoring in the derby should give him motivation to face up-coming matches.

Jerim Onyango-Gor Mahia

Gor Mahia should thank their goalkeeper for not conceding a goal against AFC Leopards on Sunday. Onyango made save after save to keep Gor in the match and was named man of the match afterwards for his heroic saves. He has been very consistent this season and repaid the faith coach Zradvko Logarusic has had on him. Onyango had a torrid time towards the end of last season as the club failed to win the league title but he bounced back to reclaim his position in goal. He has been in top form this season and will be key in helping the club win the title.

Jacob Keli- KCB

Keli scored his seventh goal of the season when KCB drew 1-1 with Sofapaka and this now makes him the top scorer in the league. The former Mathare United striker has played in all the eleven matches the bankers have been involved in scoring in most of them. His form should be an encouragement to coach Abdalla Juma, who has expressed desire to finish among the top teams this season. His consistency and experience will be a key factor in helping KCB do well and is an asset especially in big matches.

It won't necessarily be the best player in the country - at least not usually - but whoever we crown will have accomplished something amazing. It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention...
