Kenya Player of the Week
Jacob Keli
AGE 24
Chemelil Sugar
1-1 KCB

Jacob Keli has scored consistently for KCB since the season started and he now has six goals and catches up with team-mate Clifford Alwanga. The former Mathare United striker has played in all ten matches the bankers have been involved in and once again scored for KCB when they pulled a 1-1 draw against Chemelil Sugar away on Saturday. The result on Saturday temporarily pushed the bankers back to the top of the league standings only to be displaced after Sofapaka were held to a barren draw by Homeboyz also on Saturday. Keli’s form has proved to coach Abdalla Juma that he is one player who can be relied on to help the bankers do well this season and achieve their dream of a top eight finish. His consistency and experience will be a key factor in helping KCB do well and is an asset especially in big matches.

Congratulations to Jacob Keli's 3rd Kenya Player of the Week winner!

Honourable Mention

Dan Sserunkuma - Gor Mahia

Named last year’s Kenya Premier League player of the year, Ugandan import Sserenkuma has just a way of rising up when everyone has dismissed him. He has had a bad season so far with goals hard to come by at the beginning of the league and Gor Mahia fans will hope that by scoring against Muhoroni Youth in a 2-0 win on Saturday has brought back the old Sserunkuma. He will be key in helping Gor win the title this season after they fell short last year. Gor will be happy that he is recapturing his form at a time when the team is involved in big matches.

Joseph Shikokoti-Tusker FC

At a time when defenders are scoring for their clubs, Joseph Shikokoti is standing out tall for his club and he proved his ability with a crucial goal for the brewers when they stopped Nairobi City Stars 1-0 in mid-week. Shikokoti’s ability to overlap at crucial moments in a match has always given the brewers scoring options upfront. He has been key in helping Tusker win the league back to back and his experience will be counted on in another title chase this season. His club form is likely to be replicated in the national team with crucial matches lined-up.

Duncun Ochieng- Sofapaka

They say that a goalkeeper gets better with age and this has been the story of Duncun Ochieng. Despite his age, he still commands respect at the 2009 KPL champions Sofapaka where he remains the first choice goalkeeper. Ochieng has featured in all the ten matches the team has been involved putting up a great display in goal and it is not for nothing that Sofapaka are currently at the top of the log. He is also a key member of the national team Harambee Stars.

Each week our team of writers will put forward a selected candidate, as chosen by Kenya, who deserves recognition for achieving something special that matchday.

It won't necessarily be the best player in the country - at least not usually - but whoever we crown will have accomplished something amazing. It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention...
