Chelsea were better than Monterrey, says Vucetich
The Mexican believes his side were simply outclassed at times by a stronger opponent after they went down to a 3-1 defeat to the current European champions in the Club World Cup
Monterrey boss Victor Manuel Vucetich has admitted that Rafa Benitez's Chelsea were the better team after the Blues' 3-1 Club World Cup win in Japan on Thursday.A goal each from Juan Mata and Fernando Torres on top of an own goal from Darvin Chavez was enough to give the Blues' victory despite a late consolation from Aldo De Nigris, and the coach thought the Mexicans probably deserved the defeat.
"Tonight [Thursday], we did our best, but we had moments when we lacked focus, and to lose a game as we lost it today is regrettable," he told reporters.
"Overall, Chelsea were better than us, but we had our moments where we played at the same level as the English team.
"We know that Chelsea is clearly much stronger than Ulsan, but as the game started we were too timid, after Chelsea's first goal we picked ourselves up little by little and got back into the game, but they were very good.
"In the second we conceded those early two goals and we could not react, we created some chances, but we could not really get ourselves back together. We could not show all we have.
He continued: "The European teams level is the highest in the world today, their players are well paid because they are the best, physically, technically and mentally."
