AFC Leopards sets aside Sh6m for transfer targets

Ingwe secretary George Aladwa reveals to Goal that Dutch coach Pieter De Jong has been handed Sh6m by sponsors Mumias Sugar to reinforce squad

GOtv Shield champions AFC Leopards coach Pieter De Jong has been handed a Sh6million transfer budget in a bid to boost the squad.

At a time when arch-rivals Gor Mahia are struggling financially, this gives Leopards’ an upper hand in the transfer window.

The huge budget has given Leopards’ plenty of confidence in transfer market and have already shown what they can do by signing former Sofapaka midfielder Humphrey Mieno at a fee of Sh1.2m.

According to AFC Leopards' Secretary General George Aladwa, the money has been made available by their sponsors Mumias Sugar Company and will help them build a strong squad for second leg.

"We have set aside Sh6million for buying players. This is part of the money we used to pay for the signature of Mieno,” Aladwa revealed to Goal.

He confirmed that the club is targeting to sign striker Jesse Were from Tusker FC. “We are keen to bring Were to the den but we want to follow right procedure. Were can fit into the team and can be a good replacement for Allan Wanga.”
