Paolo Guerrero scored arguably the two biggest goals of his life this week as Corinthians clinched the Club World Cup title.
The Peru striker powered home a header from Douglas' cross in the semi-final against Al-Ahly to set up the showpiece final with Chelsea, where he once more proved the hero as he nodded home from close range in front of jubilant Timao supporters to hand the Brazil side a surprising but well-earned victory.
The 28-year-old's double this week sealed a great 12 months for Corinthians, as they added the global title to their Copa Libertadores crown they clinched earlier this year to leave their fans - rumoured to number more than 30 million across the globe - into raptures.
Goal.com International's South American football expert Rupert Fryer had this to say on the striker's unforgettable tournament: "Top scorer at Copa America 2011, the Peruvian was a huge signing made almost specifically for the Club World Cup. And boy has he paid them back. Corinthians scored very few goals in winning the both the Brazilian league title and the Copa Libertadores, and Tite identified the necessity to add a focal point to his 4-4-2-0 formation despite all the success it had brought him.
"Guerrero said he had dreamt of scoring the winner in the final. He made an estimated 30 million dreams come true on Sunday."
| Congratulations to Paolo Guerrero, Goal.com's 187th World Player of the Week winner! |
