BeIN Sport has renewed its partnership with France’s LFP for the international media rights to Ligue 1.
The Al Jazeera-owned broadcaster will pay the LFP €80 million a year for the chance to market the rights to games in the top tier of French club soccer from 2018 to 2024, up from its current annual fee of €32.5 million.
Any income earned over the guaranteed figure will be split evenly between the league and BeIN Sports.
The agreement follows the April sale of the LFP’s domestic rights to Canal + and BeIN Sport for a total of €748.5 million.
LFP president Frédéric Thiriez said the league had looked to capitalise on favourable market conditions and the profile of Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco to “give clubs security and visibility in their financial plan”.
