Atletico de Madrid is set to resolve its long-standing shirt sponsorship issue by agreeing a deal with Azerbaijan’s tourism authority, according to Marca.

The Spanish newspaper reports that the Primera Division giant is poised to agree a deal worth Eur12 million which will span the remainder of this season and the entire 2013-14 campaign. The two parties have previously collaborated after Atletico wore a shirt emblazoned with the logo ‘Tierra de Fuego’ (Land of Fire) during the derby game against Real Madrid on November 30.

That agreement was subsequently extended as a “goodwill gesture” for Atletico’s games against Deportivo La Coruna, FC Barcelona and Celta Vigo. Marca states that the club has also been in negotiations with Chinese technology firm Huawei and an unnamed company in the United Arab Emirates. Huawei sponsored Atletico’s shirt for last season’s Madrid derby and returned to back the club during a run of games in August which included its 4-1 triumph over Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup.

Atletico has been without a permanent shirt sponsor since its deal with automotive company Kia expired at the end of the 2010-11 season.
