The national side's coach says that his squad are only going to improve and will try to usurp Spain as the best team in the world, and he also explained his goalkeeper choice

Germany coach Joachim Low believes that Die Mannschaft are only going to get better and will try to catch Spain as the best team in the world.

Low's side find themselves second in the Fifa world rankings but the Germany boss thinks that they can continue to improve.

"We are second in the Fifa ranking, we are only behind Spain which has a team of the century," he told reporters at a press conference.

"But we improved our playing style incredibly in the last [few] years. We made a very big step forward. Now we try to optimize that to go to the top."

The former Germany number two also said that he expects a tough test from this week’s opponent France.

"This match is an acid test. France [have] found [their] old strength. We need to show a top performance if we want to compete. They have a good mix, they are technically and physically great."

Low also explained the decision not to start usual first choice goalkeeper Manuel Neuer for the friendly, instead opting for Rene Adler.

“I spoke with Manuel. Our task is to, in case something should happen, create alternatives.

“We want competition in all positions, that's why we made this decision. Manuel has to accept and will play the next two games.

“Neuer was and still is our number one, but competition is important in a year without a tournament.”
