Marseille midfielder Mathieu Valbuena has piled the pressure on fierce rivals Paris Saint-Germain, insisting they should be further ahead in the league with the calibre of player they have at their disposal.
Les Parisiens are currently top of the table on 51 points heading into the clash with third-placed OM.And given that PSG have hugely strengthened in the transfer market this season with the additions of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva and Lucas Moura among others, Valbuena believes they should be cruising to the Ligue 1 title.
“They have alternated between very good and not very good. They have always been at the top, but they have not dominated the championship," Valbuena told Le Parisien.
“They have quality in all departments, and the fluency of their game enables them to compete with the big European clubs.
“Yes, I could see myself in this team [along with other Marseille players] Steve Mandanda, Nicolas Nkoulou and Andre Ayew.”
When asked if Marseille had been overshadowed by the lavish spending from the capital, Valbuena admitted they had, but, that it was for good for French football that PSG were able to attract those types of names to the club.
He said: “PSG have almost unlimited resources to bring in the best players. Good for them and good for Ligue 1.
“The €80,000 transfer fee [that Marseille paid to sign me in 2006] means I do not weigh much in comparison, but the most important thing is the performance on the pitch.”
