Sofapaka’s Owino set for Australian stint

Batoto Ba Mungu tactician David Ouma reveals that the much traveled defender will join Australia side Southern Stars on a one month deal

Sofapaka and Kenyan international defender George ‘Wise’ Owino will leave the country on June 28 to feature for a top Australian club.

The much traveled defender was invited for a one month stint as revealed by head coach David Ouma and during that time he will turn out for Southern Stars FC.

“Wise has been invited to Australia by Southern Stars FC and he will be leaving on June 28; it is not a trial as such, the club wants him on a one month deal afterwards we will open talks with them.

“It is a good move for him but since he is a key member of the team we will miss him”, Ouma told the club’s official website.

The coach also spoke about the defender’s progress after a knee surgery three weeks ago, saying his recovery is going on well.

“He is recovering well and I like the progress. He had a five – day therapy plus gym sessions and he started jogging so he is doing well.”

Meanwhile, former Sofapaka defender Dodo Kayombo is currently training with the team. The defender, who left for St. Eloi Lupopo alongside Titus Mulama in the year 2011, was released by the Congolese side and has been in Kenya for some time now.

Asked if he would consider giving him another stint at Sofapaka coach Ouma said he is still assessing him and a return is entirely dependent on two things; if an opportunity presents itself or if he proves to be at the highest levels physically.

“Dodo is back after leaving Lupopo; he has been training with us for three weeks now. We are yet to open talks with him because defensively we are not so badly off but the situation with him is very open as in if an opportunity comes to sign him in we can consider.

“If he proves to be at the top tactically and physically we can as well consider signing him. At the moment he is one of us”, the coach said.
