Odemwingie not given permission to speak with QPR, claim West Brom

Odemwingie not given permission to speak with QPR, claim West Brom

The Nigerian was spotted at the R's training ground this evening but his current club have added to an already messy saga by declaring he cannot discuss a move at this moment

West Brom have confirmed they have not reached an agreement with QPR over the transfer of Peter Odemwingie and insist the striker is not allowed to speak with Harry Redknapp's side.

"Albion move to clarify developments regarding Peter Odemwingie after striker was filmed a short while ago arriving at Loftus Road," West Brom confirmed on their official Twitter page.

Club have held further discussions with QPR today but those talks have so far proven fruitless and no agreement has been reached.

Albion would also like to make clear that Peter has not been given permission to speak to QPR about a potential move.

Odemwingie had earlier told Sky Sports News that he was excited at the prospect of joining the R's survival mission and believed potential new manager Redknapp was fully backing him to be a success at Loftus Road.

The Nigerian striker said: “I think every football fan is interested to see if we’re going to make it or not. I’m very optimistic about it, few good players already arrived here. I’m happy with the trust that the manager harry Redknapp has given me. It’s interesting."

QPR have splashed the cash this month in a bid to preserve their Premier League status, and Odemwingie believes the ambition shown by owner Tony Fernandes, alongside some encouraging recent results, proves the club can stay up.

He added: “Yes of course I believe. The last few results have shown there is chance to stay up. I don’t think the owners will bring in so many quality players and spend so much money if they didn’t believe it can happen. So I believe as well as they believe."

Confusion remains over whether the 31-year-old will complete his move ahead of the deadline but Odemwingie is hopeful a conclusion can be reached smoothly.

He revealed: “Well it’s not 100% sorted yet, but I hope West Brom will be happy with what they will get. And of course they are hoping they will get a few players themselves, so I’m just hoping everything goes well in the last few hours."

When quizzed on whether he felt let down by West Brom's treatment of the situation, Odemwingie responded: “No, no, fine, West Brom is my home but this is a new chapter to start in my life. I love West Brom and always will.”
