The Magpies have been chasing attacking reinforcements in January since selling Demba Ba to Chelsea and the 26-year-old has revealed that he expects the move to be completed on Wednesday.
The move comes in the midst of a splurge in the market for Alan Pardew, who has already signed Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, while fellow Frenchman Massadio Haidara is on the verge of completing a switch to St James' Park.
Gouffran posted on Twitter: "Tomorrow I'll be a Newcastle player and I'm proud. Thanks everyone. Kisses."
The forward has scored 12 goals in 27 appearances for les Girondins so far this season and is expected to cost Newcastle somewhere in the region of £3 million.
