Xabi Alonso in the dark over contract situation at Real Madrid
The former Liverpool midfielder, who is bound to the Santiago Bernabeu outfit until 2014, has revealed that he has not discussed any extension to his deal
Spain international Xabi Alonso has admitted that he is in the dark over his contract situation at Real Madrid. The former Liverpool midfielder, who remains a key cog in Jose Mourinho’s team, is tied to the Blancos until 2014.
With 18 months left on his deal, questions have been raised over whether he will sign an extension with the club, or leave in the foreseeable future.
"I've no idea what will happen", Alonso confessed to reporters.
Prior to the winter break in Spain, Iker Casillas was dropped for Madrid’s 3-2 defeat to Malaga, and when asked to comment on the issue, Alonso remained tight-lipped.
"Now is not the time to talk about that, I'll discuss it another time."
The reigning Spanish champions are currently 16 points behind Barcelona in La Liga, sitting third, with Atletico Madrid in second place.
