Montanier coy on Real Sociedad's Champions League prospects

The Basque club are now five points clear in fourth place with just five games remaining but their French boss is keeping his feet on the ground
Real Sociedad strengthened their grip on fourth place in La Liga with a stirring 4-2 victory over Valencia on Sunday evening but coach Philippe Montanier is not taking Champions League qualification for granted just yet.

The Basques' win at the Anoeta means that they now sit five points above Malaga and los Che, who are fifth and sixth respectively with just five rounds of the season remaining.

However, Montanier does not believe that Sociedad have all-but-secured their place in the preliminary stages of next season's Champions League.

"We now have a good advantage, but it is not a definitive advantage," the Frenchman told reporters after the game at the Anoeta.

"But I don't think I have had a more spectacular night here. We played at a very high level and the scoreline is a result of the collective work of our defenders, our midfielders and our attackers."

Montanier and his Sociedad side will now be hoping to maintain their fine form against Getafe next weekend.
