Cerezo: Atletico must defeat Barca to make up for derby loss
The club president believes that his team will have to make amends for their loss in the Madrid derby by beating the Blaugrana at Camp Nou on Sunday
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo believes his team must win against Barcelona at the weekend in order to compensate for the dropped points in the 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in La Liga earlier this month.Los Colchoneros were undone by strikes by Cristiano Ronaldo and Mesut Ozil either side of the break as los Blancos continued their unbeaten streak in the capital derby and made up ground on their city rivals, who are now just five points ahead of Jose Mourinho's men in the standings.
Cerezo is of the opinion that his team needs to amend for the lost points against Real Madrid and stated that beating Barcelona at Camp Nou on Sunday is a good starting point.
"In the derby we lost three points. If you look beyond the fact that they are our rivals, those are three lost points," Cerezo told reporters at a cocktail party.
"And now we have to retrieve them from wherever we can, even Barca. If we win, then we will have to focus on Celta. We have to take it one game at a time and do not think about the title."
Cerezo then took the time to comment on the speculation surrounding star striker Falcao, who is reportedly on the radar of a number of big clubs.
"The topic of Falcao is an easy one. He has a contract with the club and he is tied to us now."
