The 34-year-old die Roten striker believes that his country can qualify for football's biggest competition for the first time since 1982Peru striker Claudio Pizarro is confident that his nation can make it to World Cup 2014 in Brazil despite having accumulated only seven points from seven games.
La Blanquirroja are seeking to qualify for the elite competition for the first time in 32 years and the Bayern Munich forward is determined to achieve his childhood dream in representing his country on the world's biggest footballing stage.
In an interview with Fifa.com, Pizarro said: "I’m absolutely convinced that we can do it and I think the Peruvian public are starting to believe it too."
"It’ll be difficult, but we’re prepared for the remaining qualifying fixtures."
"I’ve said it many times and I’ll say it again: my dream is to reach the World Cup with my country. That’s what we’re trying to achieve."
In their last qualifying match, Peru drew 1-1 against Argentina in a match which they dominated and Pizarro insists that the national side are improving.
"We believe we could have won that match," he said.
"We have a very strong team when we’re all available. Unfortunately, in the majority of our games [our] important players have always been missing and we’ve struggled to replace them.
"Things aren’t going as well as I’d hoped, but I’m convinced they’ll improve.
"It’s very important that we arrive in the best shape possible to each of the remaining qualifying games."
Sergio Markarian's side have two must-win clashes in their next fixtures when they travel to Bolivia and Paraguay, the two sides below them in the current standings.
"The idea is to win every match and I think six points [against Bolivia and Paraguay] are feasible, although it won’t be easy," explained the attacker.
"You need to win your home games in order to qualify, and we’ve already dropped crucial points there.
"Now we need to recoup them as the away side."
Pizarro recently became the highest foreign goalscorer in Bundesliga history and the tall frontman has scored 16 goals in 65 games for Peru.
