Goal.com follows the exploits of Kenyans playing their football outside of the country, in the top European leagues and beyond

SCOTLAND

Despite having been crown Scottish champions last weekend, Victor Wanyama’s Celtic were out in search for victory against Motherwell but ended up soaking a 3-1 shock defeat.

Wanyama played the entire 90 minutes once again proving his importance to the side, who have vowed to do everything to keep him come the July transfer window.

Gary Hooper put the visitors in front at the second attempt after initially heading against the crossbar. Henrik Ojamaa levelled for Motherwell following good work from Keith Lasley.

Charlie Mulgrew's clip on Ojamaa allowed Michael Higdon to score from the penalty spot, then Mikael Lustig's misplaced header came off post and Fraser Forster for Motherwell's third.

Celtic remain at the top of the standings and Motherwell’s victory pushed them to second spot.

ARMENIA

Former Gor Mahia striker George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo continues to make a good case for his return to the national team Harambee Stars.

On Sunday, the player was named man of the match after his side Shirak won 2-0 against Benants in the Armenian league.

It was the seventh start for the Kenyan striker, who was feted after he provided an assist to David Hakobyan, to score the opening goal for his club in the 20th minute.

FRANCE

Kenyan captain Dennis Oliech scored just his second goal for new club Ajaccio in a French Ligue one match as the side edged out Montpellier 2-1 on Saturday.

Oliech scored an injury time goal after his side had found themselves trailing in the 56th minute through Anthony Mounier goal. Then French forward Andy Delort scored in the 82nd minute from the penalty spot to restore parity for Ajaccio before Oliech ensured three points for his club with another late goal.

ITALY

Macdonald Mariga continues to be a concern for coach Adel Amrouche when he failed to make it to Parma’s team that drew 0-0 with Lazio in an Italian Serie ‘A’ match on Sunday.

Mariga has not played for his club for the last one month after he picked an injury.  It was earlier reported that he has started light training but his absence says a lot about his readiness to resume play.

He remains doubtful for the June 5 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria in Nairobi.

USA

Defender Lawrence Olum was an unused substitute after his side Sporting Kansas City lost 3-2 to Portland Timbers on Sunday.

Kansas were the first to score when Chances Myers put them ahead in the first minute but this was cancelled 23 minutes later by Ryan Johnson. Myers scored again in the 29th minute.

The winners equalized just after four minutes through Darlington Nagbe before breaking the deadlock with a 58th minute goal through Rodney Wallace.

In Tanzania, Jockins Atudo and Humphrey Mieno have been named in an 18 member squad of Tanzanian club Azam who play FAR Rabat of Morocco in this weekend’s Confederations Cup match.

Azam have opted to travel to Morocco early inorder to acclimatize ahead of the crucial fixture. The team remains the only side in the region still in contention for top honors at the continental level.
