Only four of the five new AFC Leopards’ signings have been included in the travelling squad that left on Monday for Zanzibar ahead of Mapinduzi Cup that kicks-off on Wednesday.
Defender Joseph Shikokoti, striker Jacob Kelli, goalkeeper Wycliffe Kasaya and Musa Mudde have all travelled but James Situma has been given permission to attend to personal issues.
Winger Paul Were and defender Antony Kimani will miss the trip through injury while Noah Wafula and Peter Opiyo have also been given permission to attend to personal matters. Allan Wanga did not travel with the team but is expected to link up with the squad later, according to coach James Nandwa.
"I am happy that I have all apart from Situma of my new players and I am hoping that this tournament will help us to create harmony as well as build up for next season. We will be playing some tough matches which are good for our preparations," Nandwa told Goal.
AFC Leopards’ will face Tanzanian giants Simba SC in the opening match of the tournament. Tusker FC, who reached the final of the competition last year only losing out to Azam, will leave for Zanzibar on Tuesday. The brewers play their first match on Thursday against Yanga of Tanzania.
