According to Machakos County governor Dr. Alfred Mutua, the stadium will be opened amidst fanfare and it will host a number of Cecafa event matches
The newly refurbished Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos will officially be opened next Saturday (November 23).
According to Machakos County governor Dr. Alfred Mutua, the stadium will be opened amidst fanfare. “We will have a football match to officially open the stadium which we as the people of Machakos have worked very hard to build.
“We have managed to run around the pitch from a dusty stadium to a well manicured state of the art facility. We will also have a great musical concert to open it,” Mutua told Goal on Friday.
Mutua pleaded with Cecafa Local Organizing Committee (LOC) to take at least one fixture of Harambee Stars and a semi-final match as well to the venue.
“I think the people of Machakos need something to make them smile after all this hard work and we want to urge LOC to bring us at least one Harambee Stars match and we will also be very grateful if we get one semi-final.”
Mutua’s efforts were lauded by Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario, who asked other governors to emulate him. “I think I am going to send a delegation from my office to do a case study on how fast to construct a stadium because Mutua has worked on the Kenyatta stadium for only three weeks unlike others.”
“I am very disappointed with Kisumu because they have taken a very long time and I want them to complete it very fast because there must be a Cecafa game in that stadium.”
The Kenyatta Stadium, Nyayo and Kasarani will host all preliminary matches while Kenya FA President Sam Nyamweya has promised to look into Mutua’s queries.
