Kenya midfield maestro Macdonald Mariga has for the second season running, been excluded from Inter Milan’s provisional first team squad ahead of the 2013/2014 season.

This development is likely to further put the player’s long term association with the Nerrazuri under the spotlight.

Mariga returned to Inter Milan at the end of the 2012/2013 season after completing a six month loan spell at Parma FC.

The midfielder is currently recovering from an injury sustained while at Parma FC back in February, and at the end of the season underwent exploratory surgery in the USA to correct a problem that had been affecting his mobility.

Goal understands that Mariga, who was unavailable for Harambee Stars crucial 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Malawi in June despite being called up owing to injury, has since stepped up rehabilitation at the Appiano Gentile centre in Milan where he’s undergoing physiotherapy.

A source close to the player has however, confirmed that the lanky midfielder has penciled his return to competitive action in October.

Inter new coach Walter Mazzarri is yet to officially comment on Mariga’s position at the club, with the player’s contract at the former European champions scheduled to end in June 2014.
