Gor Mahia bounced back to winning ways in emphatic style after demolishing Muhoroni Youth 3-0 in a Kenyan premier league match played at City Stadium on Saturday.
Goals from Kevin “Ade’ Omondi, defender Israel Emuge and Paul Kiongera enabled K’Ogalo to stretch their lead at the summit of the 16-team table standings to eight points. It was a sweet victory for Gor Mahia coach Bobby Williamson, who had gone two matches without winning - both barren draws against Tusker and Nairobi City Stars.
Gor went on the offensive from the word go and Kiongera was unlucky not to score in the 20th minute as his effort produced the first corner of the match after Shaban Ouma in Muhoroni goal had a touch on the ball.
Then three minutes later man of the match Moses 'Dube' Odhiambo wasted the best chance to put Gor ahead when he fumbled with ball with only Ouma to beat in goal as the Muhoroni custodian punched the ball out for Gor's second corner.
It was not until the 27th minute that Muhoroni had their first chance at goal when Titi Ogutu's shot went straight to Jerim Onyango.
The effort encouraged Muhoroni and four minutes later Kennedy Oduor hit the bar with Onyango well beaten. The huge crowd was silenced as Muhoroni kept up the pressure.
The tide turned a bit and Gor immediately went on the offensive with Kevin Omondi missing after a great 1-2 with Innocent Mutiso. In the 35th minute, Muhoroni Youth goalkeeper Shaban Ouma came out to stop David Owino's free-kick and it was only a matter of time before Gor would go ahead.
It came in the 40th minute. Solomon Nasio ran on the right flank and released a long ball which got Paul Kiongera but his effort to head home was frustrated by Ouma who punched the ball on the path of Kevin Omondi, who wasted no time to score.
As the second half kicked off, Muhoroni made the first substitution bringing on Jackson Ouma for Paul Mboya to try and get something from the match.
It was Muhoroni, who got the first corner of the second half coming inside the second minute of the second half. But Gor upped the pressure and in the 60th minute Kiongera's effort ended up in a corner which was ably taken by Moses Odhiambo and ended on the head of Israel Emuge who scored.
Kiongera made up for his many loses with the match's third goal in the 80th minute to take K’Ogalo’s points tally to 40.
