Kenya Premier League (KPL) champions Tusker head coach Robert Matano has been given a three week ultimatum to turn around the fortunes of the club or be replaced.
The tactician managed to get a three week reprieve when he met with Tusker FC officials on Tuesday at a meeting convened to discuss the dwindling fortunes of the team.
Tusker lost their second Kenyan Premier League match in a row after going down 2-1 to Muhoroni Youth on Sunday just days after dropping three points against Mathare United at City Stadium.
Club chairman James Musyoki on Tuesday exclusively revealed to Goal that the former Sofapaka tactician, whose fondly referred to as the 'Special One', has been given more time after promising to deliver in the next three matches.
The three matches include Wednesday’s KPL Top 8 final against Thika United at City Stadium and two league fixtures against Homeboyz (on July 27 at City Stadium) and Gor Mahia (at Kasarani on July 31).
“He (Matano) requested to be given more time considering that he has not been well of late. We also looked at the condition in which both matches were played and realized that it was not easy for the team to deliver.
“Just before the Mathare United match, the team had travelled for a friendly match in Meru and were forced to come back when KPL matches were reinstated. So they did not have time to rest and be ready for the post good results.
“Against Muhoroni Youth they were still tired. On this account and because he requested, we expect significant changes in the next three games starting with winning the KPL Top 8 match on Wednesday."
This is the second time Matano is facing pressure to deliver and it remains to be seen whether he will ride the storm on this occasion.
