thumbnail Hello,

The former Sofapaka defender scored a double on his debut for new side AFC Leopards' and was instrumental as Ingwe humiliated leaders Thika Utd 4-1

Kenya Player of the Week
Abdallah Juma
AGE 24
POSITION defender
TEAM AFC Leopards
Thika United
1-4 AFC Leopards

For scoring a double on his debut at new club AFC Leopards, former Sofapaka defender Abdallah Juma could not have wished for a better start at his new employers. The quality of the goals-both coming from free-kicks were outstanding and even Sofapaka coach David Ouma must have felt a tinge of regret and perhaps if he had choice would have reversed his decision to let go of Juma. But for those who know the short left-back, they were not surprised by his performance which is expected to get even better given the pressure to perform at Leopards. The victory by Leopards has done wonders to ease pressure on coach Luc Eymael, who must be smiling with glee for his wisdom to bring on board Juma.

Congratulations to Abdallah Juma's 9th Kenya Player of the Week winner!

Honourable Mention

Allan Wanga - AFC Leopards

Starting this season, Wanga was a man under pressure and things were not made better by his lack of goals. At least on two occasions he has been booed by fans in a move that would have unsettled any player. But through it all, Wanga has remained calm and composed scoring two goals in three matches in a move that has quickly earned him the trust of the fans again. Against Thika United he scored a wonderful goal first by showing a lot of calmness in front of goal after initially appealing for a penalty. However, he did not lose focus when the referee ignored his pleas to score the second goal for Leopards.

Jimmy Bagaye- City Stars

The Ugandan striker receives another honorable mention for a man of the match performance against Mathare United which saw his side narrowly fail to pick all three points after the match ended 2-2 at Nyayo Stadium. Bagaye has been the force behind City Star’s current form with his frequent man of the match performances and has proved that Leopards may have made a mistake to drop him last season. His former coach Bye Wadda has tipped him to be one of the top strikers this season and at this rate nothing can stop him from achieving such a feat.

Dennis Mukhaisi- Homeboyz

Going into their weekend match against Sony Sugar, Homeboyz had won only once.  Things were looking really bad for the league’s newcomers after they went down 5-1 to champions Tusker at home and therefore, not much was expected from them. But a man of the match performance by Mukhaisi settled matters in their favor as they won 4-1 and registered the second biggest win of the weekend after AFC Leopards humiliated Thika United 4-1. Mukhaisi scored one of the four goals and set up another and set off his club on the path to survival in what has been a very challenging moment for them.

Each week our team of writers will put forward a selected candidate, as chosen by Kenya, who deserves recognition for achieving something special that matchday.

You can also help us choose a worthy recipient of the weekly accolade by leaving your nominations and comments. Your suggestions will be taken into consideration.

It won't necessarily be the best player in the country - at least not usually - but whoever we crown will have accomplished something amazing. It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention...
