Harrison Mwenda scored in the final minutes of the match for Mathare United as AFC Leopards' poor run in the premiership continued after going down yet again

AFC Leopards suffered yet another defeat after going down 1-0 to Mathare United in a Kenya Premier League match played at City Stadium on Saturday.

Biggest heartbreak to Leopards' was that Mathare’s goal was scored in the final minute of the match with Leopards having dominated most of the play but never scoring a goal.

AFC Leopards had a fast start with Mike Barasa testing Joseph Rutto as early as the first minute. Rutto saved off Baraza’s shot from the edge of the box and he was called to duty again a minute later, this time Edwin Wafula being on the opposite end.

Leopards dominated the opening minutes of the match taking on possession and being fast on the counters and transitions. Allan Wanga had a decent shot being saved off by by Rutto after getting a pass from Noah Wafula.

The attacking duo of Wafula and Wanga were playing more wide with Barasa alternating with Wafula on the central attacking role. This strategy seemed to work but never gave the expected results with opportunities being created but no goals scored.

However, Leopards were left off in bad state when Martin Imbalambala was substituted injured. This exposed the midfield and Mathare slowly came back into the match.

In the final minute of the first half. goalkeeper Patrick Matasi was forced to a full stretched save from a Joseph Mwangi shot with Meshack Karani failing to make the rebound count, Matasi recovering to save it for a corner.

In the second half, Leopards also created many chances, but the one that will pain them the most is Mike Barasa’s missed effort in the 60th minute when he failed to connect to across from Allan Wanga.

Wanga would miss another chance just moments later when his effort went straight to Rutto after being let through by Ezekiel Seda. Seda again came close but his shot hit the cross bar.

With the defeat, pressure now mounts on Coach Luc Eymael, who has only won one match since coming in. Mathare will be more than grateful for the three points as they move up the ladder.
