Club vice-chairman Walter Onyino confirms to Goal.com that the deal, which independent investigations estimates at Sh9 million, will be sealed on Wednesday
AFC Leopards will launch the eagerly awaited Ingwe Television at a Nairobi Hotel on Wednesday.
Goal.com had exclusively revealed in February that the premier league giants had entered into a contract with pay TV channel Zuku to air their new television station in a deal worth millions of shillings.
And on Tuesday, AFC Leopards vice-chairman Walter Onyino confirmed that the TV will be launched on Wednesday at Hotel Intercontinental starting 9am.
“Yes we have finalized on the deal and the TV will be launched tomorrow (Wednesday). The other details regarding the entire pact will be revealed at the function. Also Zuku will officially invite the media with details on Wednesday’s function,” said Onyino.
Zuku will set aside a special channel dedicated to Ingwe TV, where AFC Leopards fans will be able to watch interview with coaches and players, team trainings to mention but a few and which according to our sources started shooting in February.
In February, Onyino declined to state the amount involved but independent investigations revealed that the club will be paid Sh9million.
“We have already agreed on most of the things with Zuku and they have even started shooting some of our matches and trainings as they build content for the new show," Onyino was quoted saying then.
He termed the new deal as much better than the previous one which they had with the defunct Smart TV, which used to pay them Sh3million a year.
“This is all part of our efforts to become independent and build our financial base as we expand into other non-traditional ways of raising money. We understand the need to stop relying on one sponsor because ours is a major brand which should bring us more cash in the bank."
Leopards becomes the first local club to have a television station and follow in the footsteps of their European counterparts.
