'Blackberry' wins Armenian league with Shirak FC

Ex-Gor Mahia striker George 'Blackberry' Odhiambo achieves what he failed to do with the local club by lifting league trophy with Shirak FC on Friday night
Former Gor Mahia striker George 'Blackberry' Odhiambo has achieved what he failed to do with the local club after emerging league champions with Shirak FC on Friday night.

Odhiambo's club upset Armenian giants Pyunik 1-0 on Friday to be crowned the 2013 champions. The Kenyan striker played for just 65 minutes during Friday's match.

He joined the Armenian side this season after a brief stay at Nairobi City Stars. Odhiambo made his name at Gor Mahia in 2010 when he was named the Kenya Premier League (KPL) player of the year after helping K'Ogalo finish runners-up at the end of that season.

Shirak went into Friday's fixture enjoying a five point lead over second placed Mika.

Senegalese midfielder Yoro Lamine Ly scored the only goal of the match in the 81st minute to give Shirak three needed points that takes them eight points clear in the eight team league with two games to go.
