Oliech, Origi for Ghana friendly

Harambee Stars assistant coach James Nandwa confirms to Goal.com that the two, who are ineligible to face Nigeria, will be invited for the tie against Black Stars

Kenyan captain Dennis Oliech and Norway-based goalkeeper Arnold Origi will be invited for the June 1 international friendly against Ghana at Nyayo Stadium.

The two are ineligible to feature in the June 5 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria after picking two yellow cards each.

Harambee Stars assistant coach James Nandwa confirmed on Monday that the two will be part of the team to take on the Black Stars since they are eligible to play in the June 14 World Cup qualifier against Malawi.

“They are part and parcel of this team and will be available when we play Ghana,” Nandwa told Goal.com.

He once again admitted that the absence of Oliech in the match against the Africa champions will affect the team but said they are working on identifying those who can fill in the gap.

“We are looking at Kepha Aswani (Al Nasr, Oman) and George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo (Shirak FC, Armenia league) because they are currently enjoying top form. We all understand that Oliech’s absence will be a major blow to the team.”

Nandwa further revealed that they are pursuing services of Divock Origi, who is based in France and turns out for Lille in the French Ligue.

“He has just turned 18 and this is the right time for him to make a decision regarding his future. We are hoping he can play for Kenya instead of Belgium and are bent on convincing him.”

The team on Monday received a major boost when Coca-Cola donated water and juices to help in their training.
