Less than two weeks after taking reigns at AFC Leopards, Belgian Luc Eymael now reveals that the club was not ready to hire services of a professional coach.
Eymael, who has overseen two matches against – KCB and newcomers Bandari FC – since replacing sacked Tom Olaba, has accused club officials of ‘taking care of their interest and not minding the welfare of the team.”
Speaking exclusively to Goal.com, Eymael gave an example of Monday when he could not attend training because “I had no car to pick me from the hotel.”
“Yes…I can confirm that I skipped training on Monday because no car was availed to take me to the ground. A club like AFC Leopards should have worked on such issues even before hiring my services. That is how professional clubs I have managed in my entire career operate.”
“What I have clearly observed is that there is a lot of politicking in AFC Leopards. Even the top officials are not interested in what is happening to the team but are busy taking care of their various businesses. I am not a politician and did not come to Kenya to do politics but rather came to help the club win trophies.”
Eymael confirmed that his absence in training on Monday angered several players’ who kept calling him to know exactly what was happening.
“My players were very disappointed. We had discussed on a number of issues that we wanted practiced in training after the draw against Bandari. So my absence did not go down well with the players’ and the rest of the technical bench.”
The 56-year old confirmed that he was not sure whether he will be able to attend Tuesday’s training session. “I have received a text from a driver who says he will pick me from the hotel at 1pm so that I attend the evening training session that starts at 2pm.”
“Let me hope that the (driver) will be able to come because we are losing a lot in terms of training and have a number of matches lined up hence the need to prepare well.”
