Gor Mahia coach Zdravko Logarusic has said his side will seek to stretch their un-beaten run to 21 matches when they host Ulinzi Stars at City Stadium on Wednesday.

“We will give Ulinzi maximum respect during this match but we are determined to continue with our unbeaten run. Ultimately, we want to set a new Kenyan record of unbeaten runs.”

“Ulinzi Stars is one of the best teams in the league. They have quality and we must exercise caution against them. It is going to be a tough match but I expect my players to be at their best," the Croat told Goal.com.

Gor Mahia has gone 20 matches unbeaten and are eying to break the current record which stands at 22 set by close rivals AFC Leopards.

Logarusic will be without key players - Paul Kiongera and Moses ‘Dube’ Odhiambo - who are both injured.

The duo will be out for at least two weeks meaning they miss matches against Ulinzi Stars, Mathare United on Sunday and ENPPI next weekend and Logarusic has asked the team’s alternative striking partnership of Dan Sserunkuma and Rama Salim to rise up to the occasion.

“Kiongera and Odhiambo have done well but now they are not available. I am asking Sserunkuma and Salim to step up and lift the team.”

“Some players must step up and take the chance to prove themselves. They have always said they don’t get the chance to play for the team but now this is their chance. Gor Mahia is a big team and each player must show that they are worth wearing the jersey of the team.”

Ulinzi go into this fixture with the pressure of returning to winning ways and would have preferred an easier fixture.

The soldiers welcome back Mulinge Munandi to the team after the defender returned back from international duty with Harambee Stars in Nigeria.
