Coach John Kamau lavishes praise on the youthful striker, who scored from a stunning free-kick in the 36th minute to put Kenya ahead against Nigeria on Saturday

Thika United coach John Kamau says he was delighted by striker Francis Kahata's goal against Nigeria in Saturday's World Cup qualifier played in Calabar.

The Thika United striker scored from a stunning free-kick in the 36th minute to send Harambee Stars ahead before the Africa champions leveled matters in injury time.

Kamau said the player’s performance was a big motivation for him as his coach and the rest of the team and a pointer to the abundance talent at the premiership side.

"We have done a lot of work on Kahata since he joined the club and the result is already being seen. There are many other players like him at Thika United and will come out with time," Kamau told Goal.com.

Regarding a close miss by Kahata in the 78th minute that would have seen him easily score the second goal, Kamau said that only an experienced player would have scored from such a tight angle.

“From that angle, it all had to do with experience something he still does not have but will come with time.”

It was a successful weekend for the youthful coach whose side stopped Muhoroni Youth 2-0 in Sunday’s league match to stay in touch with the leaders Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB).
