Ulinzi Stars hit by injury worries ahead of ‘Super Wednesday’

Ismail Ibrahim and Kelvin Simiyu are struggling to be fit to face rivals Gor Mahia in a mid week league match after sustaining injuries against Muhoroni last weekend

Former Kenya Premier League champions Ulinzi Stars could miss the services of injured Ismail Ibrahim and Kelvin Simiyu when they take on Gor Mahia in a Kenya Premier League (KPL) match at City Stadium on Wednesday.

The Gor Mahia v Ulinzi Stars duel will be preceded by that pitting 2009 champions Sofapaka and Mathare United.

According to Ulinzi Stars official website, Ibrahim and Simiyu are nursing injuries and could not be fit to face Gor Mahia. Ismail Ibrahim picked an injury against Muhoroni and he is set to undergo an MRI scan on his knee.

“He had an X-ray last week and the results were positive in that it never showed any fracture. We expect him to undergo an MRI on (Friday) to ascertain the extent of the injury.”

“He has been training slowly under the watch of the doctor but we will know his fate tomorrow,” said assistant coach Sammy Simiyu.

On Kelvin Simiyu’s injury, the assistant tactician said, “He has been improving well and his injury is not as bad. He has also been on slow training. We hope that the two will be available for the match against Gor on Wednesday and the doctor will give us the full report tomorrow (Friday).”
