Either of former AFC Leopards players Ezekiel Akwana, Nicholas Muyoti and Boniface Ambani are in line to be appointed assistant coach of the top flight team.

A source has revealed to Goal.com that the club has prioritized the appointment of a trainer to deputize coach Tom Olaba and could make the appointment official before the end of this month.

The assistant coaching position fell vacant following Olaba's elevation to head coach. Olaba, who joined the club from Tanzanian side Mtibwa Sugar in December, was expected to assist Vitor Salvador but the Portuguese tactician's appointment was revoked after what the management termed an 'anomaly' in his CV.

"I expect AFC to appoint an assistant coach before the end of this month. We have several applications, including those that came in when we were seeking to fill the seats in November.”

“The Executive Committee will therefore, scrutinize the applications, then request the technical bench for their input before making our choice,” revealed the club's Vice Chairman Walter Onyino.

“We are one man down,” revealed Olaba, before adding, “At the moment, myself, Nicholas Muyoti (team manager) and John Busolo (goalkeeping coach) have been handling all the technical and tactical aspects in training.”

“Muyoti doubles up as an assistant coach. The issue is now with the administration and we believe it will be handled in the best possible manner.”

The dreadlocked Akwana (pictured) had a relatively successful playing career at Mathare United, Oserian Fastac and AFC Leopards before switching to the dugout.

Boniface Ambani is seeking his first real assignment on the touchline. The 30 year-old's playing career as a centre forward has seen him bang in the goals at Yanga (Tanzania) East Bengal (India) Oserian FC and Tusker FC in the Kenyan Premier League.

AFC Leopards have drawn two of their opening league matches against Chemelil Sugar and Sony Sugar respectively, a spate of results that have courted mixed reactions from the thousands of club supporters.

The team's next assignment is away to win less Karuturi Sports in Naivasha on Sunday.
