The 'Special One' reveals to Goal.com that he axed the influential midfielder from Saturday's win over St.Michel because 'he reported to training late during the week'

Tusker coach Robert Matano has revealed why he left out talented midfielder David 'Cheche' Ochieng from Saturday's return leg Caf Champions League match against St.Michel of Seychelles at Moi Kasarani.

The midfielder, who has enjoyed a good run of form for both Tusker and Harambee Stars, was conspicuously missing from the brewers squad that thrashed St.Michel 3-0 to reach the next round of the competition on 7-1 aggregate.

According to Matano, the player, who scored two goals against St.Michel during the 4-1 win in the first leg played away in Seychelles, had come for training late during the week.

"We are very serious about maintaining discipline in Tusker and it does not matter who you are. Ochieng came for training 45 minutes late and did not explain to anyone why he was late...or whether he was going to be late."

"Because of that, we made the decision to leave him out. This team is bigger than any individual and we must maintain discipline," Matano told Goal.com.

Apart from Ochieng, the Kenya champions coach also dropped top goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch for being sent off during the February 24 DSTv/SuperSport match against Gor Mahia.

Matano at the same time expressed delight at his team's 3-0 win over St.Michel. "I am very happy with the huge win. Now we need to work hard for our next match against Al-Ahly of Egypt," he said.
