Gor Mahia respond to first leg's barren draw to demolish the Seychelles outfit away in Port Victoria to set up a tough first round fixture against Egyptian side ENNIPI
Domestic Cup champions Gor Mahia qualified for the second round of the Caf Confederation Cup after demolishing Anse Reunion 5-0 in a one-sided return leg match played at the Stade Linite stadium in Port Victoria on Saturday.
The result ensures the Kenyan team qualifies for the tournament proper, where they will face Egyptian side ENNIPI in the first round of the competition later this month.
Gor Mahia needed any win or even a score draw to eliminate their opponents following the barren draw result registered when the two sides squared off at the Nyayo Stadium a fortnight back, but instead got off their marks in breathtaking fashion with a three goal blitz within the first 20 minutes.
Paul Kiongera - who was recently acquired from KCB - started the goal rush with the opening goal before left sided defender Christopher Wekesa doubled the scores.
Kiongera added his second of the evening and third for the club midway through the opening stanza as the visitors settled for a 3-0 advantage at half-time.
Kenyan internationals Kevin Omondi and Edwin Lavatsa added a goal each in the second period to complete the rout that will give K'Ogalo motivation heading into the Kenyan Premier League, after a slow start.
"I am very impressed. I believe we have the quality within the squad to go far in this competition. The lads deserve a pat on their back," Club Secretary General George Bwana told Goal.com.
The victorious team is expected back on Sunday with players expected to break camp immediately in order to participate in Monday's General election.
