Kenya midfielder Victor Wanyama fails to inspire Celtic in Scottish league
Wanyama played the entire ninth minutes but a goal from striker Georgios Samaras could not prevent the Bhoys from falling to their first league defeat of 2013
Kenya midfielder Victor Wanyama was invoved as Scottish giants Celtic went down 1-2 to Motherwell in a league match played at Fir Park on Wednesday night.
Fit-again striker Georgios Samaras’ 10th goal of the season was not enough to prevent Celtic falling to their first league defeat of 2013. Samaras featured for the first time since sustaining an injury in the 4-1 victory over Kilmarnock at the end of January.
His inclusion was one of five changes to the team that thumped Dundee 5-0 on Sunday. Adam Matthews, Victor Wanyama, Tom Rogic, Kris Commons also came into the starting XI at the expense of Efe Ambrose, Kelvin Wilson, Dylan McGeouch, Joe Ledley and Gary Hooper.
The Greek striker´s second-half header had cancelled out Chris Humphrey´s close-range opener for the hosts. But Michael Higdon swept home Nicky Law´s searching cross in the 73rd minute to seal the full points for the Steelmen.
Despite the loss, Celtic still enjoy a healthy advantage at the SPL summit and remain on track to retaining the title.
